-To O’C McCarthy from J.W. O’Brien-November 21, 1864

November 1864, Lafayette, Ind.
Acknowledges letter of i7th inst. 'The new
Circles observing the attentive bearing towards them of Headquarters will be
stimulated to good deeds.' Asks if commissions
have been sent to John Sheehy,
Lawrence-burg, Michael Bourke, Aurora, and
Daniel MacCarthy, Richmond—all of Indiana. Glad to hear of the good health and
spirits of the commander in chief. Funds are low ;
will get $50 from Mr Doherty, 'which you will please make right with him as he
shall advise you.' Spending today
communicating with Circles, urging them to send on the monthly dues, 'perfection in technicalities will be arrived at
hereafter.' The New Albany matter will soon
be in better shape ; Cosgrove is a nuisance. 'How
looks Indiana from your standpoint ? '. Thinks he will go to Chicago from Valparaiso; has some business there. 'I am disposed to hasten my departure for your
place.'
