9 November 1864, La Salle. Encloses $32.20 'for proceeds of Mr Bell's lecture* and $2 monthly fees. Has sent his report to the state Centre. Circle working with energy and earnestness. A ball held the night after Mr Bell's lecture 'was one of the greatest balls ever held in La Salle and was graced in goodly numbers by the most fair of the virtuous daughters of the dear old land now living in La Salle. And what is most strange of all, the priests would not condescend to advertise for us, discretion being the better part of valour.' As the political cauldron has ceased boiling, all members will be held to stricter membership.
