-To O’Mahony from James O’Reilly, Centre-October 24, 1864
24 October
1864, Head Quarters, Woonsocket Circle.
Acknowledges receipt of official circular of October 8 'bearing
most exhilarating news from our brothers in
Ireland and England, news that is sufficient to gladden the heart of every true
Irishman, particularly every Brother.' Read
the circular to the members of 'this little
Circle at our last regular meeting but as yet the[y]
have failed to respond as I was in hopes the[y] should';
they appear to think there is not any urgency;
'however I for one say no delay, let every
man do his duty and in the name of Nature's
God shake of[f] the chains we've worn but
too long.' The only weapon he has is a
revolver ; would have sent it but is hoping 't[h]rough the assistance of my Brothers of this place' to be able to send more before long. 'However if this call is very urgent I will send
it by the time I get your receipt if so desired.' Regrets that Cincinnatti
is so far away and inconvenient; many of the
New England Circles will find it impossible to send representatives there
although all of them 'would have a desire,
as your Circular says, to make it an imposing gathering and show to the world
that Irishmen yet lived and were efficient to change the destiny of suffering
Mother Erin.' Hopes Mr Bell will visit them,
'it being convenient when in the sister
state Massachusetts to call and see his countrymen in Rhode Island, but this
the Centre for New England will arrange as specified.'

monthly remittance, it being so small I think it not expedient '
to get a check.'
