-To O’Mahony from Jas McNamara-July 12, 1864
12 July 1864, Toledo,
Box 285. Encloses $100 'subscribed by the
members of this Circle at the request of Capt. Daily [James Stephens].' As O'Mahony is aware, 'previous
to Capt. Daly's visit here we were as a
Society defunct.' On news of Daly's proposedosed visit to Toledo 'on his way east'
arranged to have about a dozen, mostly old, members to meet him. They were so
well satisfied with Daly's statement that
they rented a hall 'and are now getting
along slowly.' Circle has now about thirty
members, 'with, I think, a fair prospect of continuing, as the length of time
for which they have to labor is to some extent known.'
Will not make any promises; 'there is nothing certain about the stability of
our people here.' Is ready to help whenever
he can.
