4 July 1864, New Albany, Ind. Encloses cheque for $115, 'one hundred and nine of that am* was collected for Capt.
J. Daily'
[James Stephens]. Additional sums subscribed
for Capt. Daily but has been unable to
collect them. Regrets having to report 'a
great coldness on the part of some of our members in this Circle.' Will do his utmost
to collect all he can this week. 'Please
tell Capt. Daily I rec'1 his
letter and was happy to hear of his good success through the country he
traveled over. We will be anxiously looking for his address to the Centers and
Circles.' Will send a list of all who have subscribed and paid up, 'also
a list of delinquents.' 'There is some of us here who would like to get
the chance to go fight for Ireland at the present time instead of having to go
in the next draft.'
