-To J. Daly (Stephens) from William Moran-June 28, 1864
28 June 1864, 126 Collins st, Saint Louis, Mo. Acknowledges letter of June 22, on receipt of
which he ordered the Treasurer 'to forward
all the money on hand, which will amount to ten or eleven hundred dollars'; a
large sum still outstanding will be paid in at the meeting of the Circle on
following Thursday and will be forwarded on the Friday. The money would have
been sent earlier but 'we got up a picknic which came off last Sunday, and had to use
the funds for to make it what it was, the greatest success that was ever got up
in this State.' The men of St Louis may be
relied on to do their duty. Circle is about 150 strong 'and
the cry is still they come'; the members
highly delighted 'at
the success which has attended you throughout this country.' Sends best wishes 'for
you and all true men engaged in this good work.'
'P.S. You will
please instruct me when and where to forward what arms I have collected.
W.M.'
