-To O’Mahony from John Forristal-June 28, 1864
28 June 1864, La Salle, Illinois. Has sent $150 by express 'from
the La Salle Circle of the Fenian
Brotherhood,' also $313 to the Chicago Fair.
Catholic clergy 'are making a crazy opposition
against the Fenian Brotherhood';
missionaries going from town to town 'preaching
against Irish Nationality,' but with little
success. 'The time will come when they will
wish they had not medled in political
affairs.' Prepared to persevere 'until we bring the cause
of Irish Nationality to a successful issue, or if not the Irish race will
become extinct.' Asks for acknowledgement of
letter as soon as convenient and also for one copy of the Irish People 'for the Circle.'
