-To O’Mahony from John O’Donnell-June 27, 1864
27 June 1864, Mitchell Lawrence county, Indiana.
Encloses $52 'forwarded per Adams express
from the Fenian Brotherhood of this Circle';
$39 for the revolutionary fund, balance for the monthly fees for May and June. 'You will
accept the thirty-nine as a small contribution towards our future fidelity for
the Cause which you have so nobly extended troughout
the country.' Limited means of members of
Circle prevent the sending of a larger contribution ;
'we cant be too hard on them, they are all
railroad men and their means is only from one month to another.' Thirtyone 'good
members' in Circle ; initiated fifteen in the
last month. Thinks it advisable to forward dues every two months to 'save express charges, on account of the small
amount we would have to send. In the noble cause I remain yours truly.'
