25 May 1864, Quincy, Illinois. Encloses draft for $222, of which (30 are the 'contribution of Quincy Circle of F. B. for month of May,' and remainder is 'part of fund collected by Capt. D. [Daly, i.e. James Stephens] for C.E.I.R.B.'. Has received a letter from 'our friend and brother McCarthy from Alton,' who is going south to Cairo and doing good work in the cause. Intends leaving Quincy on 27th for Edina, Knox county, Mississipi, where there is a good chance of organizing a Circle. Kindest regards to Mr. Cavanagh and all friends.
