-To
O’Mahony from J. Egan (Stephens)-May 30, 1862
Friday, 30 May [1862], address not given. 'Brother,
Your two orders (first, through Mr [Thomas] Grant for ^33
odd, the second through Mr [George] Hopper for {,22
odd) have come to hand. Owing to private affairs you must send no more
letters to Mr. Hopper. He is one of my best friends; but till you hear
further I deem it better not to address letters to him.
'Some time
since I prophecied [sic] the downfall
of the 0' Goulas.
He [A. M. Sullivan] is no longer
proprietor of the News. He however continues editor of that paper; but
this won't continue long. He has moreover disconnected himself (or is about
disconnecting himself) with the Nation, which his brother Tim [T. D.
Sullivan] (the Irish-American correspondent) is to have or to hold. How
long ? I told you these rags would die
out in stink before the close of the year. They shall. Are you satisfied
? Remembrance to the Pagan [Patrick O'Leary]. Yours fraternally.'
