(On the Back side of the above letter- Oct 5, 1861-Printed Letter from same to same)

Enclosure: Printed letter to John O'Mahony from Ed. O'Flaherty, Catholic pastor of Crawfordsville, Indiana. Written signature; 5 Oct. 1861, New York; ip. Endorsed:

No. 61. Printed for circulation to 'the different branches of our organization throughout the United States'; gives O'Flaherty's impressions of his visit of inspection to Ireland (1861) and his 'ideas with regard to our present and future prospects both there and in this country'. All ranks of the I.R.B. have the utmost confidence in Stephens's ability 'to bring our present undertaking to a successful issue'. Irishmen in America have not done their duty towards the movement at home, their periodical fits of action and inaction 'have clogged the wheels of the movement in Ireland'. Urges all friends to work energetically in the cause, 'which no man on the continent has more at heart than yourself. You have spent many years of toil in striving to advance it .... The Nationalists of Ireland have commissioned me to reiterate .... that there is no man on this continent .... in whom there is such confidence reposed by them as in yourself, and none who is looked up to as the leader of our movement in America'.
