-To O’Mahony from Putnam and Diarmaid-May 25, 1860
25 May 1860. Address not given.
Date and 'John O'Mahony Esq' below text of letter in another hand.
'Dear Sir,
We have carefully reflected upon all the facts laid before us by you and will
take a suitable opportunity of fully making you acquainted with our views on
the various matters entrusted to us thro'
our mutual friend. It may be important for you to know that we are not
spineless, but on the contrary that we have
served [?] the cause of truth and justice
with triumph to the end. There are impediments in the way, of the nature,
extent, and importance of which you will be fully apprised in due course. But tho' they may sway, they will not retard, our
exertions towards the advancement of a better spirit of unanimity amongst our
people. Tho' it may be necessary, it is not
advisable this communication should be longer at present, but we would urge upon you the necessity of maintaining the
present order of things—having reference to yourself among the rest—as they
were when you made known your intentions in case of an advice from this side.
In fraternity.'
